CA Blogging Assignment 8

Overall, I think my writing skill has improved the most. This term, we did many writing reviews and blogging assignments. Chris has once said in our class that if we add up all the paragraphs that we have completed this term, the number is going to be quite high. Because we did many writing reviews and blogging assignments regularly, I think it has both prepared and strengthened my writing skills in a sense. Indeed, I took a time and compared my 1st and 2nd essay of this term's with my last term's, and I saw a great difference between the two. The vocabulary usage, coherence, less grammatical error, better outline….. man, the list can go on and on. But, personally, out of all these writing elements, I think I made a great progress this term in my citation skill. Last term, our teacher, Ms. Butler taught us all the skills, including researching, writing, and discussion, but since us program C doesn’t have much class time compared to program A and B, she wasn’t able to teach much of citation skill. But, thanks to Chris. Because of him, I was able to learn and acquire the knowledge of how to cite properly. These skills are useful not only in our class but when I graduate and obtain a job, so I would like to not forget these skills which I acquired this term.

CA Blogging Assignment 7

The quote said by C. S. Lewis on "The Abolition of Man" was quite interesting because I thought it foreshadowed our future quite interestingly. Due to our massive technological advancement done today, we are able to create things that were thought almost impossible a century before. For instance, Dolly, a first mammal that was cloned successfully, is a good example of this. Lewis probably wanted to say that in the near future, our technology might exceed our limit, causing a severe problem within the humans. Currently, we have debate over whether or not we should create or enhance another living organism because that is a same thing as us usurping the role of God. However, if this sense of ethics is overwhelmed, then there is nothing that keeps us from creating or enhancing another organism. This is what Lewis refer to as "The battle is indeed be won". But, if nothing keeps us from enhancing another organism, then many problems would likely to occur. Like for example, people would test on many other species on whether the new technology on enhancement works or not because our sense of ethics is already overwhelmed. These problems would bring chaos to our future society and what it was referred to as "The Hell scenario" in "Radical Evolution" would most likely to happen. That is what Lewis meant when he said that who is the winner over all, because the technology that is suppose to make us happy is making us unfortunate and we don't know who is getting the benefit from such a situation.

CA Blogging Assignment 6

To me, the term “the law of unintended consequences” means a series of events that happens unexpectedly, and could have both positive and negative result to a person. For instance, say someone, who had no intention of receiving anything in return, helped a woman who needed help and received money in return. This is the positive result of the law of unintended consequences. On the other hand, say someone tried to throw away the glass bottle in the waste can, when an old man walked near by the waste can and hit his head really hard, resulting in killing that old man. This is the negative result of the law of unintended consequences. Which ever result it is, I think this “law of unintended consequences” can happen to any of us living in this world although none of us are expecting such an event.

Blogging Assignment 5

My topic for the second essay would be on robotics. The topic itself is too broad, so I need to narrow it down, but I still don't know the exact topic of mine. If I were to choose though, I might write something on whether robots should acquire more intelligence than what they currently have, for instance on the case of humanoids, and the reason I'm choosing such a topic is because I was greatly influenced by the movie which I have seen two weeks ago called "Terminator 3" which had made me to rethink about the relationship of human-beings and robots and how that would effect our future. My thesis statement for this topic would be that we should not dare to enrich our lives by improving our robot technology because of the followings: being too dependent on robots is both dangerous and risky, by allowing robots do all the work can make us humans more idle, and our precious cultures of the past can fade away due to the new future technologies.

CA Blogging Assignment 4

Some people might say that enhanced students are lucky because of their amazing talents which surpass normal human-beings’ ability very easily. Indeed I think having better physical ability and mental ability than someone else is something which people should be proud of. However, one must know that these amazing talents of enhanced students are made by humans, which in another words, one can say that these abilities are created abilities. Personally, I think what makes us humans is that all of us have our own “personal identity” which is created naturally, and even if people don’t have either good physical ability or mental ability, I think people who were born naturally are far more close to actual humans than the enhanced students. So, for that reason, although they have better abilities than the normal humans, I feel sorry for the enhanced students for their “personal identity” being a created one.

CA Blogging Assignment 3

The modifications to the human genome currently being studied and experimented with will eventually change human nature as follows: it will allow humans to create their own, perfect human, which will lead to the destruction of what is being called “personality”. It is obvious that everyone in this world is different. We all have different hair color, eye color, physical ability, facial outline, favorite food, and thinking ability which creates who we really are. However, if the study of human genome makes a progress over in the later twenty or thirty years, all the physical and mental features of human beings will be able to be controlled by human hands, creating so-called “perfect human”. This might be good news for parents who want their own child to have either great physical ability or great mental ability, but due to the fact that the genome inside the human is controlled by us humans, the personality of individuals is a “created personality” rather than a “true personality” of that person.

CA Blogging Assignment 2

At first, I said that I will focus on the relationship between justice and ethnicity, and how these two are related to the way people think. However, considering the amount of time left for us to complete the assignment, I thought the topic I have stated earlier would be too broad and therefore, impossible to complete it on time. So, I have narrowed down my essay topic and revised my thesis statement as follows: America seems to be thinking that what they are doing to the other countries for instance Afghanistan is the right thing and good for its people of that country. However, looking at the circumstance, it is not exact to say that the actions of America against the other countries are a true justice.

And my three main supporting ideas for this essay would be as follows…….

My first supporting idea would be that countries like Iraq, although they have been receiving the aids from US, are still under disorder and what is making it worse is that not only American soldiers are being killed, but the citizens of that country also.

My second supporting idea would be the tragedy of 9/11 that has happened almost ten years ago at US. If the Islamic people were really appreciating the aids from US, would they have done such a thing?

My third supporting idea would be that with over six billion of people living in this world, a belief of justice a single race is holding would not be the justice for all the others. In other words, the justice for US does not make the justice for the world.

Using the three main supporting ideas above, I would like to claim that what is being called an American justice might be a justice for some part, but that does not make it justice for all the others.
